What to Know

Critics Consensus

A back-to-basics caper populated by the likes of a mesmerizing Juno Temple and a thick slice of Hamm, Fargo's fifth season is a superb return to peak form.

Fargo: Season 5 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) A.A. Dowd Primetimer Season 5 restores the dark-comic tone — that existential screwball, a play on Joel and Ethan’s — but still succumbs to some of the same problems, like Hawley’s increasing preference for loudly stated themes and clashing acting styles. Feb 28, 2024 Full Review Fargo: Season 5 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Esther Zuckerman The Atlantic Much of the pleasure of this Fargo season has come from watching her MacGyver herself out of peril with wicked smarts. But despite Dot’s savviness, the viewer is never quite convinced that she’s out of trouble. Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Fargo: Season 5 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times There are moments when Season 5 of Fargo seems to be trying almost too hard to be weird and great, but that's a fine ambition to have. There are also moments of absolutely inspired lunacy. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Fargo: Season 5 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Nelson Acosta Koimoi Season 5 feels more like an event than just one more season of the show. In an age when the avalanche of content seems infinite, it feels great that the show takes its time to come up with the best possible story before coming back to our screens. Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Fargo: Season 5 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Kathryn Reklis The Christian Century Fargo understands this rage more fully, partially because it understands that the battle for patriarchal power is far from over... May 7, 2024 Full Review Fargo: Season 5 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Diane Carson KDHX (St. Louis) This iteration blissfully delivers the desired off-beat humor and distinctive, inimitable violence. Steve S Fargo knocks it out of the park again with another great season. John Hamm is a great bad guy and the whole cast is phenomenal. The ending wasn’t what I was expecting, but then again this show is known for throwing curve balls so it fit right in. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/24 Full Review Richard S A brilliant tale ending in redemption and forgiveness. Arguably the best season yet. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/24 Full Review Abhishek S Fargo's characters are so deeply etched out that its just wonderful to watch them go about their day at their own pace.. and also they seem authentic and not caricaturish or even generic (a standard Hollywood character)Juno temple (take a bow!) Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/12/24 Full Review Ethan H I think the cast was very good for the season, but I think this season is guilty of over stuffing. There were simply to many characters to keep up with, which prevented real character development. This resulted in the majority of characters feeling one dimensional. In addition, this season, like season 4 is missing the common theme of a normal man becoming a villain which made seasons 1-3 so interesting. If there is a season 6 please go back to basics. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Maxim O Loved every moment of it. Great acting, amazing writing, beautiful Minnesota atmosphere . This is classic 100% Fargo. A must watch Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Lars S Great fiction. All "fargos" say true story. But they are not. But that's fine this works well as pure fiction. Engaging plot. Satisfying ending Emmy worthy performances. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
