Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. As a valued RRSS team member, you will be contributing to a broad and complex organization consisting of five key units: Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH), Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), the UC San Diego Bookstore, Triton Print & Digital Media, and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). As a member of the HDH team, you will be part of a self-funded unit with over 900 staff employees, 1,000 student employees, and an annual operating budget of $250 million, providing housing and dining services to over 20,000 students, faculty, staff, and their families. POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Finance & Marketing, the incumbent is responsible for providing high level support to HDH leadership on a variety of complex resource issues with significant HDH impact. Uses high level skills, critical thinking, professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve highly complex issues with HDH impact in creative and effective ways. Responsible for identifying funding priorities and conducting advanced innovative planning and analysis, and developing budget modeling tools to guide management decisions. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Possesses excellent communications and collaboration skills working with internal and external contacts on matters pertained to organizational plans and objectives.
Serves as principal short-term and long-term budget director and liaison for HDH with a total operating budget of $340-400M annually. The incumbent is considered a subject matter expert in matters related to the HDH financial programs and enterprise, policies and guidelines and provides financial and strategic decision support to the business to ensure achievement of the organization's long term financial goals and strategic plan. Responsible for providing strategic leadership and high-level professional support in the resource planning, analysis, evaluation and implementation of major HDH programs and initiatives. Having wide-ranging experience uses professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues with organization-wide impact in creative and effective ways. Works on complex issues with little or no precedent where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Participates in overall organizational planning, policy development, and implementation, change management, goal-setting, and practice optimization. Provides supervision and oversight to staff responsible for key functions including strategic planning, budgeting and financial analysis.
Position will act as the primary business administrator of the budget, planning, and reporting software tool (Workday Adaptive Panning) used by the department to track revenue, costs, debt and the more than 950 career employees and over 1,000 part-time student employees. This includes implementing and managing the software to ensure site configuration and workflow, the development of standard operating procedures and policy and procedures, user documentation, and model assumptions. Meets directly with HDH constituents to address HDH budget needs and provides counsel related to headcount planning and operating expenses. This includes developing reporting, communication, and training strategies in support of department's Workday Adaptive Budgeting system.
The incumbent will also lead the financial modeling, due diligence, and analyses for real estate construction and acquisition projects in excess of $10M - $500M to determine feasibility and return on investment. The incumbent will provide high level project management of strategic initiatives related to advancing key financial and business processes to improve decision-making, efficiency, determine room and board rates, metrics, and internal controls.
A member of HDH Finance leadership team and strategic partner, advises and represents HDH Finance on a variety of complex organizational and HDH issues; participates in strategic planning discussions.
