New Delhi, Apr 20: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) is all set to host a national conclave titled ‘Cruel Face of Quick Commerce and E-Commerce’ on Tuesday at the Constitution Club, New Delhi. The event aims to expose the exploitative practices of modern digital retail platforms and their impact on India’s traditional trading community.

Organised in collaboration with the All-India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) and the All-India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF), the conclave will bring together trade leaders, policy experts, economists, and stakeholders from across the nation. According to CAIT, the event will serve as a platform to highlight unethical business practices, including predatory pricing, violation of FDI norms, and marginalisation of small retailers.

CAIT Secretary General and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal lashed out at the unchecked rise of e-commerce and quick commerce models, calling them a threat not only to the traditional retail sector but also to the socio-economic fabric of India. “Behind the veil of convenience lies exploitation. Traders are being pushed to the edge, while delivery personnel are subjected to brutal work conditions,” he remarked.

He further alleged that big e-commerce players are misusing foreign direct investment to finance predatory pricing tactics, with little to no real asset creation in the country—contravening government policies. “It is time to unmask the harsh realities behind these platforms,” Khandelwal said.

Key issues to be deliberated during the conclave include:

• Deep discounting and consumer manipulation

• Violation of FDI regulations

• Displacement of small and medium retailers

• Harsh working conditions faced by delivery personnel

The event will conclude with the adoption of a ‘Policy Resolution’ urging the government to implement stringent regulatory safeguards. CAIT aims to ensure fair competition, protect traditional trade, and uphold the dignity and well-being of the workforce engaged in the quick commerce ecosystem.
