An Invincible Character You Totally Forgot About Just Died Offscreen (2025)

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-7.With Invincible having such a stacked roster of characters, not everyone can get an overly heroic death, but one person who you had totally forgotten about just died offscreen. Given the Invincible War provided one of the show's deadliest episodes yet, it's no surprise that plenty of loss came with it. Rex Splode's Invincible season 3 death was inevitable, and episode 7 finally pulled the trigger on it, but he was just one of the war's many casualties. The total number of victims was in the hundreds of thousands, and a minor character with one appearance was sadly among them.

After Angstrom Levy brought numerous evil Mark Grayson variants to Earth, they wreaked havoc on the planet, targeting some of the most populated cities around the world, including Tokyo, London, New York, and Moscow. Clearly, Levy's goal was to cause as much destruction as possible to hurt Mark, even if it meant killing innocent civilians who had nothing to do with their conflict. While Mark was lucky enough to avoid losing too many loved ones, Atom Eve wasn't so fortunate, as a former childhood friend from her special episode was one of the many people who lost their lives.

Val From Invincible's Atom Eve Special Dies During The Invincible War

Eve's Childhood Friend Was One Of The Invincible War's Many Victims

Fans who missed the Atom Eve special may not even be aware of Val's existence, but after just one episode in the franchise, she has sadly been killed off. Given her debut came during Eve's childhood, it seemed unlikely she would ever feature in the series again, but learning about her death was still a shocking moment that helped add weight to how brutal the Invincible War really was. Despite rejecting Eve's powers, Val seemed like a fairly innocent kid, and while we don't know much about her later life, she didn't deserve such a tragic fate.

Invincible Season 3 Is Great, So Why Is It Making Me So Anti-Superhero?

Invincible season 3 has arguably been the show's best installment yet, but it has also raised plenty of questions about the integrity of its heroes.

After checking on Eve's injuries, Mark crossed paths with his girlfriend's parents, where Betsy revealed that she was actually relieved her daughter had powers, having learned about Val's death. It was a subtle yet effective way to prove that now everyone in the series was invincible, showing how easily minor characters can lose their lives. The arrival of Conquest in Invincible season 3's penultimate episode suggests things may get worse before they get better, but after Val's death, it seems like characters are more vulnerable than ever, especially those who have only featured very briefly in the franchise.

Val Being Scared Of Atom Eve's Powers Gives Her Death In The Invincible War A Deeper Meaning

Perhaps Val Was Right To Fear Eve's Superpowers

Val's death may have felt like just another way for Invincible to add emotional depth to the war, but it may have a greater meaning. After learning about Eve's powers, Val stopped talking to her former friend and their relationship fell apart, but her fear of superpowers is starting to look more justified. Although she has used her abilities for good, Atom Eve is still one of Invincible's strongest characters, and the Invincible War just proved what superpowers can do in the wrong hands, which makes Val losing her life to a superpowered individual all the more haunting.

While her exact cause of death is unknown, Val was likely killed directly by an evil Mark variant, or as a result of the destruction they caused. Therefore, while superpowers can be a gift when used for the right cause, they can also be incredibly harmful and dangerous, proving Val was right to be cautious about them. Even though Invincible's heroes and villains often don't choose to possess these powers, they do ultimately decide how to use them, and for a regular person, this can be terrifying, making the tragedy around Val's death hit even harder.
